Senate Bill 265: Nutrition (Senator Cain)

Problem:   In the last two decades, childhood obesity rates have doubled.

One quarter of children ages 5 to 10 years show early warning signs for heart disease, such as elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Unhealthy diets are a major contributor to this trend.

Solution:     Ensure that children get the support they need to build healthy habits and make healthy choices!

SB 265 asks schools to help parents win the fight against childhood obesity, and get Oklahoma back on track!    SB 265 does the following:

Elementary Schools:  Eliminates access to sugary drinks and snacks, except for special occasions.
Middle Schools:  Requires that only healthy choices be accessible during the day, and limits access to sugary snacks and beverages to after school and evening events, and special occasions.
High Schools:  Requires the provision of healthy choices (snacks and beverages that meet USDA guidelines) with incentives to encourage the purchase of healthy choices.

SB 265 does not reduce revenue or mandate how revenue must be spent.  SB 265 is endorsed by the Oklahoma Fit Kids Coalition.
