Annual Fit Kids Coalition Awards

 

The Oklahoma Fit Kids Coalition will be recognizing school, community, corporate, and public leaders during the 3rd Annual Oklahoma Fit Kids Coalition Awards Ceremony.

 

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, OK

 

Nominations will be accepted through November 7, 2008. Click here for award descriptions and nomination form.

 

The award categories are:

• Healthy & Fit School

• School Leader

• Community Leader

• Corporate Leader

• Public Official

 

Award winners will be recognized for their outstanding work on behalf of Oklahoma youth and families to improve their health and well-being, particularly in the areas of physical fitness and nutrition.

PRESS CONFERENCE

Introducing Oklahoma Fit Kids Coalition 2006 Legislative Agenda

State Capitol, Blue Room, Feb 22, 2006

 

Michelle Hale, Governor’s Tulsa office, Welcomed all in attendance, and stated support for Fit Kids Coalition from Governor’s office.  Hale also read a proclamation from Governor Henry announcing “Fit Kids Day in Oklahoma.”

 

 

Dr. Mike Crutcher, State Health Commissioner, Identified the five CDC priorities to reduce childhood obesity, and recognized Fit Kids Coalition for tackling legislation to support these priorities in Oklahoma.

 

 

Stan Hupfeld, Coalition Chairman, Outlined the essential mission of the Fit Kids Coalition and announced an exciting new partnership with the Daily Oklahoman.

 

TU POSTER PROJECT

Hupfeld also recognized an exciting University of Tulsa poster project.  A  sampling of the posters were featured at the conference, as well as students and professor, Carl Brune.

 

“Last semester, 20 University of Tulsa Graphic Communication majors researched the childhood obesity epidemic for their final project.  What the students learned was then communicated graphically in a series of posters.  These impacting visuals, designed for teens in a peer-to-peer conversation, inspire a healthy lifestyle,”  stated Hupfeld.

Announced the 2006 FKC Legislative Agenda:

2.      SCHOOL WELLNESS POLICY - SB 1459

3.      FITNESS TESTING - SB 1461

Followed the conference, and was attended by over 80 member representatives and special guests.
