 | It's not an aesthetic issue. The human body comes in all shapes, but excess weight is a clinical medical disease that causes numerous other physical and mental illnesses. In children, its debilitating effects are often compounded and more severe.
|  | Child obesity: Not parents’ fault. Our consumption-driven culture of abundance and entitlement is so pervasive, it often overwhelms a parent’s ability to counteract.
|  | Not primarily due to human weakness. Experts believe America needs to agree obesity is an epidemic resulting from external forces (our environment). It cannot be the result of a “sudden upsurge in moral failure” nor change in our gene pool. |
Therefore, a vital foundation for policy development will be public recognition of genetic and environmental factors as major contributors to obesity.
