Information and Resources for Oklahoma Schools

There are many great resources throughout this website that Schools, Teachers, and Administrators can use.  Click on Resources or Library to find many of them.  This page, however, contains resources specific to be used in the schools.

CDC School Health Index

The School Health Index (SHI) Self-Assessment & Planning Guide was developed by CDC in partnership with school administrators and staff, school health experts, parents, and national nongovernmental health and education agencies for the purpose of

Enabling schools to identify strengths and weaknesses of health and safety policies and programs,
Enabling schools to develop an action plan for improving student health, which can be incorporated into the School Improvement Plan, and
Engaging teachers, parents, students, and the community in promoting health-enhancing behaviors and better health.

The SHI is a self-assessment and planning tool that schools can use to improve their health and safety policies and programs. It's easy to use and completely confidential.

Recommendations for Healthy and Fit School Committees

What is a HFSAC?

A Healthy and Fit School Advisory Committee is an advisory group of at least six individuals who represent segments of the community (teacher, coach, student, administrator, parent, school nurse, health care professional, community member, food service personnel, custodian, school bus driver, school secretary, school counselor).  The group acts collectively to provide advice to the school regarding school health issues.  HFSACs are committed to creating healthy school environments so students may reach their learning potential.

Why we need to get a HFSAC started?

Senate Bill 1627, the Healthy and Fit Kids Act of 2004, creates the Healthy & Fit School Advisory Committees in each school comprised of parents, local health care professionals and community leaders to study and make recommendations to their school principal regarding health, physical fitness, nutrition, health education and health services.
