This was a fun story to write on Mount St. Mary's Caitlin Baker, a star swimmer who has turned her attention to much bigger issues.

At 17, she's done more than most people twice her age. And it seems like she's never satisfied and will never take 'no' for an answer.

  • September 2007 Tahlequah High School and Sequoyah High School with Olympian Mark Spitz.
  • December 2008   Keynote speaker at the University of Arizona's Childhood Obesity/Diabetes Conference, San Diego, California.
  • April 2009 Long Beach, California. Speaker at the CDC National Diabetes Translation Conference Plenary session.
  • May 2009 Washington, DC.  Panel member at the Robert Woods Johnson's National Childhood Obesity Summit.
  • June 2009 Tucson, Arizona.  Swim Clinic for the Indian Health Clinic and Pascua Yaqui Tribe.  Keynote speaker at the Family Wellness Day.
  • June 2009 Addressed Norman, Oklahoma City council prior to vote to ban smoking from all city parks. Ordinance passed unanimously.
  • July 2009 Presented at the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health Youth Leadership Retreat.
  • September 2009 Presented at SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) Leadership Retreat.
  • June 2010 testified before the U.S. Senate subcommittee on the Diabetes Crisis in Indian Country.
  • July 2010 presented workshop at the Tahlequah Youth Leadership Conference
  • August 2010 presented at the Cleveland County SWAT Leadership Conference.
  • September 2010 presented at the United Sates Aquatic Sports Assoc. National Convention. Dallas, Texas.
  • October 2010 Panel member, Zarrow Mental Health Symposium, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

SWIM CLINICS, CAITLINB PROGRAMS, PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS

  • Fall 2006 Started the CAITLINB (Competitive American Indians Turning Lifestyles In to New Beginnings) program.
  • 2007-present Speaking and instructing at TURTLE CAMP, diabetes prevention program held by the OKC Indian Clinic.
  • June 2007 Helped organize a swim clinic for the Boys and Girls Clubs in Pryor, Oklahoma, bringing in Josh Davis, Olympic gold medalist to speak and instruct.
  • September 2007 spoke at Tahlequah High School and Sequoyah High School with Olympian Mark Spitz. Held swim clinic with Mark Spitz for local swimmers.
  • Partnered with Lucas Taylor, Creek Nation, spoke at "4 Love of the Game" College Day.
  • April 2008 profiled on the Today show along with the OKC Indian clinic on a series highlighting non profits that benefit youth.
  • October Nov. 2008 Partnered with National Museum of the American Indian in Manhattan, NY and the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Designed and presented  "Stepping Out to Health with Caitlinb."
  • March 2009, Sisseton, South Dakota.  Worked with the Sisseton Indian Clinic and presented a Healthy Youth Program to area public and tribal schools.  Approximately 500 youth participated.
  • March 2009, Began partnership with CDC in their launch of the Eagle Series national tour.
  • June 2009 Tucson, Arizona.  Swim Clinic for the Indian Health Clinic and Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
  • October 2009 Hosted swim clinic for the Winnebago Tribe, Winnebago, Nebraska.
  • October 2010 began partnership with the OK Department of Mental and Kiowa Tribe Suicide and Injury Prevention programs.  Currently designing a program to address suicide crisis in teens.
