Stand Up
Why Advocate?
The decisions made in the Oklahoma Legislature shape the direction of millions of children's lives in coutless ways. When policies ensure a better start in life they make our whole state stronger, healthier, and more secure. When laws fail to put kids first and on the path to success, we all pay the price.
Laws don't happen by accident. They happen when people like you make their voices heard. Advocacy is often something simple, like picking up the phone to call your elected leader and telling them what matters to you. The impact of even simple actions can be enormous.
When you join others in advocating for children, you may never know how many lives you affect. The first step is to simply make a commitment to speak out: to let elected leaders know children matter to you, to write about children's issues, and to vote with kids in mind, knowing you are making a better future for all of us.
Advocacy Tools:
Staying informed during legislative session is crucial. Legislators convene Monday, Feb. 6, and there is a lot in the works already. It can be overwhelming trying to keep up with all the bills being filed, the committees meeting, the deadlines being enforced and how all of the above will affect you and your family. It is important to let elected officials know what is important to you and remind them of the priorities for families and children. Below are several tools to assist you in making your voice heard.
Let the Oklahoma Fit Kids Coalition do that kind of work for you. We will be your resource for updates on the legislation that will have an impact in your life. Sign up for our legislative updates to receive weekly summaries during session from Feb. through May through the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy's website.
